ABSTRACT Different levels of user involvement in product design range from understanding user needs to codesigning with users. Previous research shows older patients face difficulties to handle the medication packaging. Yet the participation of older patients in pharmaceutical packaging design is underexplored.

Participatory Design (in its origins also called co-operative design) is a relatively new approach to designing products. It successfully involves the stakeholders, designers, researchers and end-users in the design process in order to help ensure that the end product meets the needs of its intended user base.

Incorporation of processes is all the more important in participative research than in any other. If the purpose and desire is to gain a further deep understanding of the contextual structured of meaning and the dynamism that in embedded in social action, it becomes worthy to incorporate participatory research at the design stage itself. Co-design leans more on teaching the skills to the recipients of the process, while Participatory Design stress more the involvement factor, but in the end they are both part of a design that is centered on the users involved in it. In other terms, we can add all the words and adjectives we want, but that’s just plain and normal design. Participatory design research is the art and science of inviting users and stakeholders to play an active role during the design and development process.

Her research focuses on relations between design, culture and technology, specifically on social change and transformation through emerging technologies. Exploring and developing theoretical and methodological approaches between social anthropology, interaction design and participatory design her participatory design research, democratic action, public space design, public action. Nowadays, many design researchers conduct user-centre design research. By collecting ideas from the targeted users’, they claim the problems of a design project can be . solved more efficiently. Participatory design (PD) in HCI has been successfully applied to vulnerable groups, but further research is still needed on forced migrants.

Also known as “co-creation”, “co-design”, or “cooperative design”, it emcompasses techniques useful to both initial discovery and subsequent ideation phases of a project, where the end-users of a product, service, or experience take an active role in co-designing solutions for themselves. Stakeholders not only participate in design but also transform themselves through design. They start to see the world differently and design a technology in new ways.
